Just to let you know we will be performing at Kris Kinder at 3:00 on the stage. So we need to meet up by 2:45 to make it over there. We need to scare up some drummers for the open dancing after the performance for about 30 minutes. I will probable duck back to the booth. It needs to end by 4:00 so they can set the stage for court. I forget what it cost to get in but if you go to the Barony of Forgotten Sea website info is there including driving directions. We'll talk more at the next class. I figure we'll be practicing for that for the rest of Nov.

Re: Kris Kinder
Wed, November 15, 2006 - 1:07 PMI don't know. Hasan would your group like to perform? It would be great to have other SCA dancers performing. I'm not scheduling anything as I have to vend and will just be ducking out for the performance. Anyone else is welcome to do what ever. We just have to be off the stage by 4:00. Friends of the Silk Road will be dancing at 3:00.

Re: Kris Kinder
Thu, November 16, 2006 - 8:15 AMI think I'll set out a sign up sheet and hopefully get someone to be in charge of it as I have to go back to vending as soon as we're done doing our choreography. -

Re: Kris Kinder
Thu, November 16, 2006 - 8:29 AMI will take care of it. Can we say 5 minute limit-bring your own music/drummers? -

Re: Kris Kinder
Thu, November 16, 2006 - 9:02 AMI'll be there with instruments. Anybody wanting some live playing, send smoke signals...and bribes (like pastries or something guaranteed to upset my doctor and put me in a diabetic coma, or massages from giant women named Helga, or...or roast animal-on-a-stick...hmm, maybe I should make a sign of "Will play for food" or something).

Re: Kris Kinder
Thu, November 16, 2006 - 9:22 AMWe will have practice Nov. 20, 27 and Dec.8th I am requiring that any of my students who want to dance at Kris Kinder in our choreography need to make it to at least two of the next 3 practices. If you can't that does not mean you can't dance afterwards either in a solo or in the open dancing. This is so we will look really good considering our performance at Lilies last year. I'm convinced most people won't even realize it's the same choreography with another one stuck on the end. I hope I'm not offending anyone. -

If you only ever did a choreography once, you would be so damn busy learning and writing,
you'd never have time to really dance. That said, I think most choreographys get better with age - especially if you refine and hone it.
When you go to see your favorite band, you know the songs they're going to play ... yes?
And you love then for that. I think the same holds true for a great dance routine.
Don't worry - just dance.
As a side note:
Several years ago when I was dancing at workshops monthly, I used to worry about being seen in the same costume more than twice. This lead me to spending thousands of dollars as I was buying a costume every six months from Dahlal.
www.dahlal.com/
SO I can say with all of my heart - don't worry!
And in all honesty, most people won't even know it's the same dance.
Hugs,
J

Re: Kris Kinder
Mon, November 20, 2006 - 8:29 AMThanks Emera and you're so right Jemira. Just this weekend down at a seminar in Dallas I was thinking "how many people have seen me do this choreo in this costume. Not many." I told my husband I was only going to wear my bronze bra cups for this last seminar this year then they were going to retire for a while. I was happy to see that one of the teachers that I had seen a couple of months ago was teaching the same thing and danced on the show with one of the same choreos she'd done a month ago. It has been great advertisement to wear the bra cups that my husband is making and it has definately helped sell them. But I'm really looking forward to a new pair.
I'm going to enjoy us fine tuning this choreo and I'm also looking forward to not doing it for a while after Kris Kinder. See you all tonight. -

Re: Kris Kinder
Mon, November 20, 2006 - 9:11 AMHope Kris Kinder went well for you ladies! And, Jemira's so right! People thought I owned a LOT of costumes....well, I do, but not as many as you think (mix-n-match items as much as possible!). Not everyone attend the same events and will not have seen the choreography nor the costume but maybe one or two and they usually wanna see it again!
